From 1948 to 2025 to the Future

Originally Holly Springs Campground, the site housed an arbor under which gatherings could be held. Soon after the Civil War, Campground Methodist Church was organized, and a boxed house measuring 16x20ft was built, located about 800 yards behind the current location of the chapel. Land was donated by C.J. and Martha Ann Purdy, as well as Robert and S.A. Bennett for the construction of a new building. In 1883 Joseph McKee donated $100, a large sum of money for that time, for the construction of a wooden frame building and thus the church became McKee’s Chapel. Around 1910, the building was moved closer to the road, to the current location. In 1948 a new brick structure was built to replace the wooden building, a mere 8 feet to its side. This building still stands, though in disrepair. McKee’s Chapel Heritage Society asks for your monetary help to restore and preserve this site with roots back in the 1800s, allowing the continuation of its heritage.
